The suspects, who were apprehended between Igbani Station and Parrot Island on the Calabar waterways, were caught with over 220 drums of illegally produced diesel by the Navy.

According to the Commanding Officer, NNS Victory, Commodore Kingdom Itoko, the men (whose names were withheld) were apprehended while conveying the diesel to Calabar  in a wooden boat, along with two pumping machines.

Itoko lamented the negative effects of bunkering on the economy, stressing that the Navy would not relent in ridding the Eastern maritime environment of criminal elements.

In his words,  “I want to tell Nigerians,  especially those living in Cross River State that we are not resting on our laurels  in the fight  against illegal bunkering and oil theft.”

On his part, Assistant Detective Superintendent of the  EFCC in  Port  Harcourt Office, Mr. Abdullahi Musa, said the anti-graft agency would investigate the suspects as directed by the headquarters, unravel the sponsors ans prosecute them all.
